Last week, as I walked out of a friend’s house on Marine Drive, I noticed a bunch of young children along with their friends and family, circle an ice cream van and devour delicious ice creams of all kinds. I caught sight of a young girl who was getting chased away with a stick by the shopkeeper because she was unable to afford one, but was still waiting in anticipation to lick one of those flavoured goodness.  I went up to her, held her hand and took her to the van, gave the shopkeeper a little piece of my mind and bought her two different ice cream flavours. The sudden burst of “Khushi” from her face gave me a sense of “Khushi” that was seemingly unexplainable.

“Khushi” is not just a word but a feeling felt the moment one speaks it. It’s a feeling of inner happiness and satisfaction, a gesture, that says more than the words can explain - a true spirit and an honest reciprocation.

“Khushi” is a little different from a smile, as it instills a strong bond of contentment - contentment of fulfilling a close objective or a mission.

“Khushi” is a satisfaction and the result of an effort which brings momentous changes. It can be a concern that was addressed and was well received, or it can be a result of change brought about or a cause promoted, which eventually led to a respectable revolutionary transformation in the society at large.

One such issue which requires tremendous attention is “Care for the Under-Privileged Children”.

Going by prominent reports by global agencies, it is alarming to know that every 3rd malnourished child in the world lives in India. Girls are yet in today’s date less likely to get enrolled in schools than boys. The gender gap still exists at large and a significant number of children still remain out of education. Issues around child labour and beggary need more attention.

It is difficult to believe that India contributes more than 20% of child deaths in the world.

It is not that our efforts in the past never brought changes in all these years, it is just that we need to spread a stronger message around.

“Khushi” is a mission that has started to work on fulfilling this objective and to let the world know that we do “Care for the Under-Privileged Children” – their Nutrition – Education – Health and overall development.

“Khushi” is a mission to bring together like minded people, particularly the youth of today, to spread this awareness amongst colleagues, friends, relatives and people around via word of mouth, through an e-medium or the way one feels would be useful.  Each individual who gets attached with this mission would be recognized as a “Partner in Creating Happiness”.

This mission cannot be achieved by few; it needs the support of many “Partners”. We just desire to sensitize our country about “Care for the Under-Privileged Children”. Discuss the issue in various forums and share personal experiences on the efforts & involvement towards the cause (however small an effort or gesture it may be) at khushi.creatinghappiness@gmail.com.

Send us your personal stories and experiences about how you have contributed to the cause and helped spread “Khushi” to these young children and we will publish them on our blog – http://www.khushi-creatinghappiness.blogspot.in
For the coming 3 days, we will forward three prominent facts about “Children” in India and we would want you to let us know whether you were aware of it or not.

From 13th April 2012, we would be uploading the experiences of people with their credentials on the blog – the change would begin for an eventual “Khushi”.

It is true, “Yesterday is already a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision, but it is also true that, today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope”.

We know,  “Khushi” cannot be bought, begged for or borrowed; it has to come naturally….

  1. It is a commendable initiative and we should all align with it. As very rightly stated, Engineers and Management Graduates, IT Experts should promote this cause. When we live in India, it is our duty to look after these children and ensure their upbringing.

  3. We feel very sad and guilty when we see little children begging at road junction/places of worships/eatable shops etc.

Can we do something for these children.Like with the permission & help from local authority we can maintain a place ( Rehabilitation center) where food can be made available & some facility for basic education can be created.

We understand that large number of such children are begging under force by either parents or some gang leader.
If the local administration with the help of police bring all these to this center, the city will be free of baggers & force full begging will be stopped.

Definitely we can see Khushi on the faces of these children.

  7. There are opportunities to improve in every tragedy. This is a time when the today's can make a difference by being involved and taking a stand to improve lives of the underpriveleged around us. I thank Priya for highlighting their plight here and I hope like minded people contribute and make small improvements everyday. Let's see how determined we are! As a matter of personal conduct; in my daily life, I do not tolerate child labour and if it comes to my notice that someone is practicing it, I try my best to put an end to it.
Also, although it sounds harsh but I never give alms to beggars, especially children because I am worried that their guardians will then find them a convenient source of income and will never let them study or learn anything worthwhile. Neha Doshi
