Welcome all the new members who have joined VEDANTA KHUSHI campaign. With strong 17,300 + members and page views of over 33,000 on VEDANTA KHUSHI blog, www.khushi-creatinghappiness.blogspot.in, the message about care for the underprivileged children in India is spreading very effectively.
The VEDANTA KHUSHI campaign started with the sole objective to spread awareness towards care for the underprivileged children in India. This is perhaps the first non-funding campaign by a corporate- Vedanta Group that sensitize people at large, towards the need for care for these children - their Nutrition – Education – Health and overall development.
The VEDANTA KHUSHI blog http://www.khushi-creatinghappiness.blogspot.in besides informing people about the alarming situation of poor children in India, also posts motivating heart touching experience and stories of people who have helped underprivileged children through their own ways.
Most recently we concluded a 2-day workshop with about 125 street children in Udaipur and motivated them to join formal schools. The workshop also tested their drawing skills besides lessons on health-hygiene-nutrition. Their parents were also involved in counseling.
The latest is the initiative towards poor children who are suffering from Cleft Lips and Cleft Palates.
India is sadly one of the prominent countries where almost 35,000 children every year are born with the problem of CLEFT LIPS / CLEFT PALATES. This problem in children is quite prevalent in developing countries and as much as 1/700 children in the world are born with this problem.
VEDANTA KHUSHI, SMILE TRAIN - USA, which is the world largest and international renowned charity organization that conducts CLEFT LIPS and CLEFT PALATES operations and GBH American Hospital, Udaipur have joined hands to conduct free operations of about 2500 children from all over the country.
VEDANTA KHUSHI has also sent 9000 poor children from Child Care centre to formal schools.
The campaign is also providing health-education-nutrition to over 650 children of the migratory parents in Tamil Nadu, who travel for want of work from one State to another.
VEDANTA KHUSHI campaign has a strong thought that government, corporates and NGOs together cannot do it all and there has to be a direct participation from common people. We need to be sensitive towards this issue and participate equally for its prevention and cure.

We are please that more than 1000 people participated and expressed their views, some of which have also been placed on the blog.
Before we forget, let us all know these facts that India houses the maximum number of children in the world, larger than China. Various reports inform that every 3rd malnourished child in the world lives in India. More so India contributes to more than 20% of the child deaths in the world. This is enough indication to all of us to unite and help our country overcome this problem ?
